やっぱりたたき台としての実装があると議論する気が出てきて楽しい，ということでFOAF話をさらに進める．いきなり変な話になってしまうが，semblog.orgはFOAFの「可能性」をそんなに信じていない．自己紹介のデータは好きなだけ載せればいいけれども，他人との関係についてはある人とある人がつながってるらしい，それくらいがデータとしてわかれば十分で，それ以上の情報を込める必要はない，というかそれはやればやるほどFOAFの存在意義から離れていくような気がする．例えばぼくがAさんのFOAFデータを取り込んでfoaf:knowsに加える．そして編集機能（未実装）を使ってぼくが思うところのAさんに関する情報を書きこむ．するとどうなるか．「ぼくが思うところのAさんに関する情報」がネット上に公開される．しかもぼくのところに．果たしてそれはよいことだろうか？たまにはよいことかもしれないが，たまにはよくないことかもしれない．しかもこのやり方ではよくなかったときにAさんを救済する手段がない（システム的に，ということ）．本当はいまのFOAF TrackBackすら怪しいもので，ある人に知られたくないししかもそんなこと公表されたくない，なんていう状況が仮にあるとするとなかなか大変そうだ．まあネガティブなことを言ってても仕方ないが，善意で全てうまくまわっていくという想定もできないわけで，いまのある種不自由な実装というのは実のところギリギリの線ではないかなあと思っている．もちろんこのあたりは多くの人の意見を聞かないといけないところです．

もうひとつ，上の話と同じなのか同じでないのかよくわからないが，人間関係ネットワーク（いまならSocial Networkingと呼ぶべきか）の研究をやったりツールを作っていると，よく「人間関係にはいろんな種類があるのだから，それを表現してほしい」と言われる．人間関係にはいろんな種類があるのはごもっとも．ぼくも人生を歩んでいくうえではいろいろと苦労してますが:-)，そのいろんな種類はシステムとして本当に区別しておく必要があるのかなあというのが疑問．自分とつながっている人のリストはあったほうがいいけれども，その人たちとの関係の内容（とその複雑さ）は本人が一番よく知っていて，かつその知識は仮に外部化・明示化されたとしても他の人からはよくわからない（どういう事情でそういうつながりがあるのか，とか）．もしわかるならばそれはその人がデータを見て理解したのではなく，前から知っていたのだろう．うまく書けてないけど，要するに人間関係データを丁寧に記述してやるというのは毒にはならないにしても大した薬にもならず，しかしそのためのコストは莫大なものになる，ということ．

これはFOAFだけの話ではなくて，もっと風呂敷を広げればどこまでがコンピュータによる支援の領域で，どこからは人間のアクティビティなのか，その線を決められないにしても考えたいという話だ．究極の自動化，もしくは人に対して究極の自由度を与えるという方向性はそれとしてひとつある．けれども，ぼくとしては単目的ではなく多目的のバランスをどううまく取っていくかに興味があって，semblog.orgが出しているツールでもそのあたりのチューニングに一番時間をかけているつもり．実のところそういう態度は全く研究者に向いてないような気がしていて困っているのだが，それはともかく多くの人に「良い塩梅」だと言っていただければ成功だし，過剰だとか過小だとか言われれば反省します．まあRNAについてはオープンソースなのでこれをベースにいろんな実装を作っていただければ最高ですが．．．

あとは関係ない話として，世間のFOAF使いには人間関係を眺めて楽しみたい人が多いのか，もしくはスパム防止みたいに実利を求めたい人が多いのか，どうなんでしょうか．潜在的ユーザが急増しているいま，プロジェクトのMLだけを追いかけても全然わからないので．それもまたバランスの取り方に大きな影響を与えるはず．
