Wiki Way という本を購入してぼちぼちと読んでいる．Wikiは最近まじめに活用していないのだけれども便利だ．あれがなければ日記を書くことはしなかっただろうし，まさか自分がWeblogの研究に踏み込むこともなかったであろう．しかしまあ世の中にはWikiクローンが山のようにある．そしてそれらが独自性を競い，コミュニティも盛り上がっているようだ．が，Wikiコミュニティについてはどうしても気になる点があって，それは記法の問題である．Wikiではhtmlの代わりに単純な記法を採用してる（たとえば[[word|http://...]]と書くとリンク，とか）のだが，その記法がクローンごとに微妙に異なる．あるクローンでは「*」は見出し，他のでは箇条書き，など．もうちょっと何とかならないのだろうか．確かに新しい機能を付け加えれば新しい記法を採用しないといけない，が，それにしたって使える部分は過去のものを踏襲してもいいのに．またはさっさと規格化するとか．そんなこんなでクローン間のデータの互換性は基本的に期待できず，一度使い出したら同じのをずっと使わざるを得なくなる．さて，なぜこんなことをしつこく書くかといえば，それはWiki的な記法に大きな期待を抱いているからだ．日常的に書くコンテンツではhtmlが前提とするような木構造はほとんど必要なく，Wikiのようにその場その場で簡単な印をつけるので十分だ，タグに比べて印は入力コストというか手間が低くて，そのおかげで多様な「意味」を乗せられる可能性がある．ということで，せめて印は共通化して，それをみんなが使いこなせるようになればSemantic Webの世界観の実現は相当はやくなるだろう．微妙な（本当に微妙な）差異化はあまり意味をなさない．何とか解決したい問題のひとつである．
